Polish public library cultural initiatives

Public libraries in Poland continue to implement various cultural events and community-focused projects. In Kamienna Góra, the Municipal Public Library is launching the ‘ZINtegrowanie’ project, which utilizes literature, photography, and collage to explore counterculture. This Ministry of Culture and National Heritage-funded initiative aims to produce a collaborative local ‘zin’ through resident participation, author meetings, and workshops.

These library-led activities are part of a broader trend of cultural and literary events occurring across various Polish regions. In Pszczyna and Sosnowiec, the ‘Noc Bibliotek’ (Library Night) event is being observed through themed activities for children and urban games. Other regional initiatives include the ‘Weekend Seniora z Kulturą’ in Łomża, featuring author meetings, and the III Autumn Literary Festival in Nowy Targ.

Recent developments show an expansion into diverse cinematic and musical programming. Film-related events include the 17th Kamera Akcja Festival in Łódź, featuring the Venice Golden Lion winner ‘The Unknown Woman’, and the Senior Movie festival in Szczecin, which focuses on independent filmmakers over the age of 60. Historical education is also being addressed through documentary screenings in Ostrołęka and outdoor cinema in Żubrynie regarding World War II history.

Musical events include Ania Karolska’s concert in Białystok, an opera performance in Warsaw, and an integration concert in Świdnik highlighting musical talents among Polish and Ukrainian youth. In Świdnik, students from the PCEZ dormitory organized an integration concert at the Municipal and County Public Library, led by Anna Kolomieitseva, to help newcomers adapt to their environment. Additionally, Gołuchów has launched a large-scale educational board game to teach local history.
