The Polish sugar beet season has seen high-quality yields despite varying regional conditions. In the Zamość region, the Werbkowice refinery began processing nearly one million tons of beets, noting that while drought reduced average yields to approximately 60 tons per hectare, sugar content remained high at up to 18 percent. In the Wielkopolska region, yields reached over 80 tons per hectare with a 16.3 percent sugar content. However, farmers across these regions are facing significant economic challenges. Concerns center on declining profitability due to rising costs for fuel, fertilizers, and labor, as well as projected drops in purchase prices. Some growers anticipate prices could fall from 30 euros per ton to approximately 26 euros in the coming season, which may lead to changes in crop structures. In Lower Silesia, weather conditions including drought and spring frosts have further impacted production. In Gądków, farmer Paweł Boś reports that yields are approximately 20 percent lower than usual. Despite these reductions, Boś is expanding his contracted acreage for the upcoming season, utilizing specialized machinery and emphasizing that successful production requires traditional plow cultivation, proper soil preparation, and timely responses to changing weather.
