A political dispute has emerged at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) following the appearance of provocative graffiti on campus walls. The slogans include demands for the release of jailed activist Umar Khalid and messages such as ‘Long Live Naxalbari’. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has accused left-wing student groups, specifically the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the JNU Students' Union (JNUSU), of being responsible. The ABVP alleged that objectionable graffiti was placed near a portrait of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, describing the actions as an attempt to disrupt the academic environment and promote ideological conflict. JNU administration officials have initiated an investigation into the matter, stating that such graffiti will not be tolerated. The incident follows similar reports of provocative slogans appearing at Jamia Millia Islamia university. Members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have criticized these recurring incidents at major Delhi universities, characterizing them as attempts to ‘spread anarchy and terrorism’ much like the ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Free Sharjeel Imam’ slogans recently discovered at Jamia Millia Islamia.
