Political activity in Catamarca has recently centered on both controversy involving provincial officials and scheduled partisan events. In late August, Eduardo Niederle, the Minister of Water, Energy, and Environment, faced scrutiny following a reported luxury 60th birthday celebration in Fray Mamerto Esquiú. The event allegedly cost over 100 million pesos and was attended by approximately 250 guests, including high-ranking officials such as the Vice Governor of Catamarca, Rubén Dusso, and the Governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela. The gathering has sparked local debate regarding the relationships between political leaders and state providers. In September, the province scheduled separate political gatherings. The ‘Vicente Leónides Saadi’ awards, organized by the Es Con Vos group, were set to honor 12 historical figures of Catamarcan Peronism. Concurrently, the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) Youth movement announced a National Youth Congress for early October, aimed at mobilizing young supporters for the national reforms led by President Javier Milei. This congress is scheduled to take place on October 2.
