Political tensions in Cinquefrondi escalated from verbal disputes to physical intimidation. Initially, the local majority coalition, ‘Rinascita per Cinquefrondi’, defended Mayor Michele Conia against accusations of “coercive methods” made by the ‘Risveglio’ minority group, labeling the opposition’s claims as attempts to delegitimize local institutions. Following these political frictions, an act of intimidation targeted the family of Michele Galimi, a former mayor and local councilor. A Molotov cocktail was discovered on a vehicle belonging to Galimi’s wife, located within the garden of his residence. Regional councilor Giuseppe Falcomatà and local authorities condemned the act as a “vile and ignoble gesture” that threatens democratic values. Mayor Michele Conia and the ‘Rinascita per Cinquefrondi’ group described the incident as an attack on the entire municipal council, while the Democratic Party (PD) characterized it as a grave attempt to influence political activity. The Carabinieri are investigating the matter, with the primary hypothesis being a connection to Galimi’s political role. In response to the incident, Mayor Conia expressed unconditional solidarity with the Galimi family and urged for clarity to prevent the criminal act from being used for political speculation. He rejected claims from minority councilors suggesting the town is experiencing an “undemocratic” or “heavy” atmosphere, labeling such narratives as a mistification of the community’s reputation. The administration emphasized that Cinquefrondi is recognized nationally as a ‘City of Rights’ and a model for legality and anti-mafia commitment.
