Mayor Marialuisa Forte of Campobasso initially announced plans to expand the municipal government by adding a ninth assessor to the existing eight-member council. This expansion, expected around the approval of the 2027 budget, prompted political speculation regarding whether the new appointment would come from the center-right opposition, potentially altering the City Council's balance of power. Following these developments, Domenico Esposito, the Forza Italia group leader, filed a motion of no confidence against Mayor Forte. Supported by councilor Nicola Cefaratti, the motion cites administrative stagnation and a failure to address public security. The opposition has highlighted ignored proposals concerning the recruitment of additional police shifts, the creation of an anti-degradation nucleus, and new security protocols. Cefaratti stated the motion is a response to a majority that has ignored constructive guidance on urban planning and territorial management. As the motion moves forward, it requires at least 13 signatures—representing two-fifths of the 32 council members—to proceed to formal discussion. While Esposito and Cefaratti have signed, the outcome depends on the stance of other center-right groups. Nicola Lanza of Azione Civile has commented on the motion, urging Mayor Forte to overcome political stagnation and provide a clear direction for the city rather than allowing the administration to drift, suggesting the crisis could serve as an opportunity for renewal.
