The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) in North Macedonia has faced both external criticism and internal instability. Initially, the party accused Assembly President Afërim Gashi of failing to defend the Ohrid Framework Agreement and criticized the government for not allowing Albanian representatives to display the Albanian national flag in official meetings. DUI characterized the government’s stance as a “politics of servility” and called for representatives who would more actively protect the rights of the Albanian community. Subsequently, the party became embroiled in internal power struggles. The political organization VREDI alleged that leader Ali Ahmeti is manipulating conflicts between party members Artan Grubi and Bujar Osmani to maintain control. VREDI claimed that Osmani is advocating for Ahmeti to step down to transform the party into a competitive opposition force, while alleging that the current leadership is focused on protecting personal wealth rather than ethnic rights. Internal tensions have escalated as reports suggest Ahmeti is playing a dual role, ostensibly protecting Grubi from legal issues while simultaneously fueling the conflict between Grubi and Osmani. Grubi, who is reportedly under house arrest, is facing perceived abandonment by former allies. This friction is compounded by legal scrutiny regarding the ‘State Lottery’ case, where Grubi’s potential testimony before judicial authorities could impact the future of the party’s current leadership.
