West Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari has initiated a political campaign targeting what he describes as anti-national elements at Jadavpur University. Adhikari initially issued warnings against student factions and left-wing groups, criticizing the use of slogans regarding Kashmir and Palestine and the presence of murals honoring Maoist leaders. The situation escalated into a formal protest march known as the ‘Gerua Samman Yatra.’ Led by Adhikari, the procession was organized to move through South Kolkata to protest against graffiti and slogans at the university. In response to the planned rally, the Jadavpur University administration closed four main campus gates, and Kolkata Police implemented security measures and traffic restrictions to manage the event. During a special session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Adhikari reiterated his stance, issuing a stern warning regarding anti-national slogans at the university. He accused certain forces of brainwashing students and criticized the use of controversial slogans. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government would take strict action against anyone working to undermine the unity and integrity of India, stating that the administration would respond firmly to activities that threaten national security.
