Gwent Police launched a murder investigation following the death of 56-year-old Anthony Jones. Mr. Jones died in a hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries during an incident of violent disorder in Mill Street, Pontnewynydd, near Pontypool, on August 6. Initial reports indicated that seven men of various ages were arrested in connection with the disorder. Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley stated that officers were working “around the clock conducting enquiries” to address community concerns. As the investigation progressed, authorities identified the violence as being linked to members of two rival Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs, specifically the Vikings and the Hells Angels. The investigation has been described as a “complex and fast-moving murder investigation.” Police have continued to seek information regarding a man from Blaenavon and a specific blue Ford Transit van to assist in establishing the movements of those involved. New details reveal the brawl reportedly involved approximately 20 individuals armed with weapons, including machetes, which also left two other people hospitalized. The scale of the investigation has grown, with a total of 25 men, aged between 18 and 73, detained for various offences. A 40-year-old man from the Torfaen area, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. Police have successfully located the blue Ford Transit van used in the incident and have tracked down another individual for questioning. Detective Superintendent Bartley noted that the complex investigation has caused “substantial disruption to local communities.”
