Pony.ai is expanding its autonomous vehicle operations across both commercial freight and passenger transport sectors. In the logistics sector, the company has set targets to deploy 1,000 autonomous electric heavy-duty trucks by 2027 and aims for a fleet of 100,000 L4 autonomous light-duty trucks by 2030. Through a partnership with SANY, Pony.ai is moving from prototypes to regular production of fourth-generation hardware, which reportedly costs approximately 70% less than previous versions. The company’s Robotruck business saw a year-over-year revenue increase of more than 30% in Q1 2026. In the passenger sector, Pony.ai has partnered with Uber to deploy over 2,000 autonomous taxis in Europe and the Middle East. Building on an initial service launched in Zagreb, Croatia, the companies intend to expand into four additional European cities, with further Middle Eastern expansions to follow. This move is part of expansion utilizes a broader effort joint-deployment model that integrates Pony.ai’s Level 4 autonomous driving technology with Uber’s global mobility platform for booking, payment, and customer service. While day-to-day fleet operations are expected to be managed by local partners in each market, the move positions the companies to compete with market leaders like more directly against rivals such as Alphabet-backed Waymo and other growing competitors such as like Baidu and WeRide.
