Popeyes has faced a series of controversies involving customer service and food safety. Initial reports highlighted social media footage showing a heated altercation between a regular customer and staff over wait times, alongside a separate video of an employee squatting on trays of raw chicken. Following these incidents, a lawsuit was filed in Harris County District Court seeking over $1.5 million in damages. Two customers, Justin Howard and Danielle McKinnon, allege they discovered a “condom-like foreign object” inside fried chicken at a Houston, Texas, location. The plaintiffs claim the incident caused physical nausea and mental anguish. They further allege that restaurant employees laughed at them when they attempted to complain and that management initially only offered to replace the food rather than addressing the safety concern. Popeyes has disputed the allegations, stating that an internal review of video footage does not validate the claim. While the company maintains there is no evidence to support the incident, the franchisee provided a refund and temporarily closed the restaurant for re-training.
