Telefe has announced the return of the musical reality competition ‘Popstars’ after more than two decades. The program premiered on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 21:30, broadcasting on Telefe and streaming via Disney+ in Latin America, with additional availability on Disney Channel and Uruguay’s Teledoce. Hosted by Nico Vázquez, the show features a judging panel consisting of producer Charlie García—identified as the Vice President of A&R at Sony Music Mexico—urban music artist Nicki Nicole, and performer Ángela Torres. The premiere was a viewership success for Telefe, leading prime-time ratings with scores between 10 and 11.9 points, outperforming the competitor ‘Es mi sueño’ on El Trece. Following a massive selection process, approximately 3,000 contestants were chosen from over 15,000 online applicants to participate in in-person auditions at Parque Roca. Notable moments from the debut included the successful audition of Valentina Pergolini, daughter of media figure Mario Pergolini, who advanced to the next stage of the competition. The competition aims to form a new girl band that resonates with new generations, moving away from imitating past successful acts like Bandana. During the selection process, the pop duo Miranda!, featuring Ale Sergi and Juliana Gattas, made a special appearance. The duo participated in an activity led by Vázquez to help contestants work on harmony and pitch using hits such as ‘Tu Misterioso Alguien’ and ‘Mentía’.
