Initial reports indicated the child was brought to the Bom Jesus Urgent Care Unit without signs of life, exhibiting injuries to her head, legs, and buttocks. Medical professionals raised suspicions of sexual violence based on the nature of the lesions. The child’s aunt, who had been her caregiver, reported that her partner admitted to hitting the child on the day of her death.

Following the initial investigation, 22-year-old Nicolas Gabriel Almeida Staubus was arrested after confessing to the violence. Authorities noted that he and his partner had taken the child to a health unit after she had already passed away before attempting to flee. Investigators are currently looking into the potential involvement of other family members and are awaiting medical examiner results to confirm if sexual violence occurred.
