TVI relaunched its summer edition of Big Brother in late June 2026, appointing Maria Botelho Moniz as studio host and bringing veteran voice‑over Carlos Moura back. The prize was raised to €100 000 and Moniz helped pick the contestant line‑up, promising more surprise. The season opened on 27 June, sparking criticism from former Secret Story 9 participant Carina Ribeiro over the inclusion of 45‑year‑old Angolan entrepreneur Tatiana, a former Big Brother Africa runner‑up, which she argued contradicted the “anonymous” premise. Early July saw a budding romance between housemates Mariana Sá and Miguel, while a TVI poll on 9 July put Nuno at the top of the popularity chart, followed by Miguel and Raquel. João Ventura fell to the bottom and was voted out after his first week. Contestants such as Tatiana, Boris and Mariana Salgueiro struggled to make an impression. A July 19 episode highlighted escalating tensions: Nuno accused Vanessa of using João for visibility, sparking a heated exchange; Nuno’s family labelled Raquel “toxic” for pressuring Nuno, who said he was not seeking a new relationship. Alliances shifted and friendships cracked. On 23 July host Maria Botelho Moniz publicly defended the show’s authenticity, rejecting claims that edited footage was generated by artificial intelligence and interrupting contestant Boris on air to warn against narrative manipulation. Inside the house, Tatiana and newcomer Joaquim clashed over a bolognese dish, underscoring growing frictions. The next milestone arrived on 26 July, when TVI aired a double eviction. Joaquim was the first to leave, receiving only 7 % of the public vote. Among the remaining nominees—Raquel, Nuno, Sara and Vanessa—Vanessa secured the first safety slot with 41 % of votes, leaving the others facing further elimination. Following the double eviction, 28 July brought new controversy and dynamics.
