Precious metal price volatility in Asian and Middle Eastern-
Overview
Gold and silver prices continue to experience volatility across major markets in India, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates.
In Pakistan, gold rates have maintained a downward trend. The All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association reported 24-karat gold rates between Rs 448,336 and Rs 453,936 per tola. In the UAE, prices have eased from recent highs, with 18-karat gold trading below Dh400 per gram and 24-karat gold near Dh523.
In India, the market shows significant regional variation. While gold prices previously declined, recent data shows 24-karat gold reaching approximately ₹1,53,000 per 10 grams and 22-karat gold priced around ₹1,40,260 per 10 grams in metropolitan areas such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Conversely, silver has faced a notable decline, dropping to approximately ₹2,44,900 per kilogram in some regions—a decrease of nearly ₹10,000 over a one-week period due to pressure on international spot markets.
Market analysts attribute these movements to several global factors, including US Federal Reserve monetary policy, fluctuations in the US Dollar Index, crude oil prices, and global inflation. The current volatility in India occurs ahead of the upcoming festive and wedding seasons, which typically drive increased consumer demand.
