The international network ‘Priests Against Genocide’ has intensified its advocacy regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Lebanon. Initially, the group urged Catholic leadership to move beyond “prudent silence” and adopt more decisive language, framing the situation as a matter of “violated human rights” rather than a purely religious issue. Following these calls for leadership engagement, the network organized a demonstration in Rome. The event, involving approximately 100 priests from eight countries, included a prayer session near the Vatican and a procession. During the march, participants carried a shroud inscribed with the names of 300 Palestinian and Lebanese children killed following ceasefire declarations. Founded in 2025 by Father Rito Maresca, the network has expanded significantly, now comprising approximately 2,500 priests from 67 countries. Its membership includes three cardinals, nine archbishops, and nineteen bishops, along with prominent Italian figures such as Luigi Ciotti and Alex Zanotelli. Father Pietro Rossini, a Xaverian missionary, serves as a spokesperson for the initiative.
