Prime Minister Tarek Rahman arrived in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and a 35-member delegation. Prior to his address, the Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with World Bank President Ajay Banga to discuss economic stability and energy concerns, and with UNHCR Chief Filippo Grandi regarding the Rohingya crisis. During the latter meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity for the “safe and dignified repatriation” of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. On September 24, Prime Minister Rahman delivered his address to the General Assembly in Bengali. He called for global conflicts to be resolved through diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation rather than lethal weaponry, stating that logic, education, and humanity should be the primary tools for global change. He expressed concern regarding humanitarian crises and economic pressures, such as inflation and energy insecurity, and urged the United Nations to serve as a central hub for compromise. In his speech, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and an independent state.
