Mexican singer and actress Belinda is set to star in and associate produce an Amazon Prime Video miniseries centered on the Florence Cassez judicial case. Developed with Amazon MGM Studios, El Estudio, and Tigre Pictures, the production aims to portray the 2005 arrest of Cassez and Israel Vallarta, who were accused of leading the kidnapping gang ‘Los Zodiaco’. The series will examine the controversy surrounding the Federal Investigation Agency (AFI) and the televised staging of the arrest, which was later revealed to be a recreation. This incident previously caused significant diplomatic tensions between Mexico and France. While Belinda stated her intention to approach the project with “sensitivity, honesty, and respect,” the announcement has faced opposition from Ezequiel Elizalde, a victim of the Los Zodiaco group. Elizalde has declared through Radio Fórmula that he does not authorize the use of his name or identifying information and reserves the right to take legal action. The production is led by head writer Daniel Krauze and director Humberto Hinojosa. To prepare for the role, Belinda is undergoing a physical transformation and intensive language training, as approximately 40% to 50% of the series will be performed in French. She is reportedly receiving assistance from her mother to refine her pronunciation and accent, while also conducting research into Cassez’s personality and real-life circumstances to ensure an authentic portrayal.
