Following the Kosovo Specialised Chambers' convictions of four former KLA leaders—Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli, and Rexhep Selimi—to a combined 81 years in prison, protests have intensified and expanded globally. Prior to the verdicts, the civic platform ‘Liria ka Emër’ organized activities including a ‘Natën e Pritjes’ (Night of Waiting) in The Hague and various countdown initiatives and marches across Kosovo municipalities such as Prishtina, Skenderaj, and Prizren. In Prishtina, demonstrations reached 19 consecutive nights, involving violent clashes near government buildings on October 5, 2026, which left twelve people injured. Amidst this instability, the Kosovo Assembly moved to address the court's jurisdiction. In a political compromise between the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) and the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Assembly approved legislative changes to the law governing the Specialized Chambers with 88 votes. These amendments aim to narrow the chambers' jurisdiction and cap maximum sentences at 15 years.
