Promotion of Ana Pejčinova’s book on Afghanistan
Overview
Ana Pejčinova is scheduled to promote her book, ‘Desert Heart: Fifteen Years in Afghanistan’, at the Laboratorijum venue in Skopje. The event features a discussion with the author, Natasha Atanasova, and Aleksandar Madzharovski.
The work is described as a rare example of documentary prose in contemporary Macedonian literature. It is based on Pejčinova’s fifteen years of personal and professional experience in Afghanistan, covering the period from the fall of the Taliban regime to the 2021 collapse of the Afghan government.
Rather than focusing solely on political or military narratives, the book documents the daily lives, social connections, and survival rituals of ordinary people. While the author utilizes creative freedom in dialogues and changes names to maintain privacy, the book is presented as a collection of memories based on true events and real circumstances.
