Several PSOE politicians have announced decisions to decline parliamentary re-election in favor of focusing on local municipal priorities. Alberto Rojo, a current Member of Congress, stated he will not run for the Congress or the Senate, noting his “only and absolute priority is Guadalajara.” In his announcement, Rojo also criticized local fiscal policy, alleging that tax increases under the current administration have added 1,000 euros in annual costs to local households. Similarly, Gonzalo Redondo, a national deputy and PSOE secretary general in Alcázar de San Juan, announced he will not seek re-election to the Congress of Deputies or the Senate. Redondo characterized the decision as personal, stating his priority is to focus on local development, housing, and public services within his municipality. Expanding this trend ahead of the November 29 general elections, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas has formally communicated his decision not to run as a candidate for the Congress of Deputies in Córdoba. Planas stated he intends to focus on negotiating and defining agricultural and fisheries policies for the 2028-2034 period, while remaining available for the electoral campaign. In response to these shifts, María Jesús Montero has directed that provincial secretaries general without other long-term institutional positions will lead Senate lists. In Andalusia, this strategy includes candidates such as Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix in Cádiz, Pedro Fernández in Granada, and José María Martín Fernández in Almería, a move viewed as a method to protect organic leaders within the party.
