Public controversy surrounding Jakov Jozinović

Singer Jakov Jozinović has faced public scrutiny following a performance in Budva, Montenegro, on August 9, where videos showing low attendance led to social media speculation regarding his declining popularity. While some observers suggested the sparse crowd resulted from rescheduling or high ticket prices, others defended the singer for proceeding with the event.

In September, controversy emerged regarding Jozinović’s selection as the opening performer for the 61st Vinkovačke jeseni festival in Vinkovci, Croatia. Vinkovci Mayor Josip Romić defended the decision, stating that Jozinović is a local talent and that many citizens had requested his appearance. The backlash is reportedly linked to previous tensions surrounding a concert Jozinović performed at the SPENS hall in Novi Sad, which drew protests from Croatian veteran associations due to the venue’s historical significance as a site where Croatian prisoners were held during the 1991 war.

Josip Dabro, a member of the Croatian Parliament, has publicly supported the singer, arguing that Jozinović’s success should be a source of pride for Vinkovci and Slavonia. Dabro stated, “The more our people succeed across the border, the more visible and stronger we are as Croatia,” and encouraged the community to support the artist rather than opposing him based on musical taste or past controversies.
