Various German municipalities have scheduled public guided tours for August and September 2026, focusing on local history, nature, and infrastructure. In Heidelberg, Stadtwerke Heidelberg organized a water-supply tour of the Handschuhsheim valley to demonstrate the development of the city’s drinking-water system. Nearby, Butzbach scheduled city tours of its historic market square and castle, alongside a nature walk in the Isseltal focused on local flora and fauna. In Neuwied, scheduled activities include botanical tours of the Rommersdorf Abbey gardens, excursions regarding the city’s dike system and flood protection, and a historical tour titled ‘On the Traces of Jewish Life’ to explore the local Jewish community and memorial sites. On August 30, the botanical tour will specifically highlight landscapes inspired by English and French styles, while the dike tour will cover flood history at the Dike Information Center. Further programming in Neuwied for September 6 includes a seven-kilometer hike titled ‘Ein heißes Erlebnis: Vulkanismus!’ near Hüllenberg. This tour follows the Rheinhöhenweg and Rheinsteig toward Leutesdorf to highlight how volcanic activity shaped the region and the historical importance of pumice stone production. Additionally, a 90-minute city walk starting at Neuwied Castle will focus on the history of the ‘Deichstadt,’ visiting the Princely Castle, the historic town hall, and former industrial sites such as breweries and an oven factory.
