In mid-August 2026, the Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Department initiated a series of simulation exercises to test the state’s preparedness for public health emergencies. Under a ‘One Health’ framework, these drills targeted various diseases including leptospirosis, avian influenza, dengue, scrub typhus, and cholera to identify systemic gaps in surveillance and logistics.

By September, the state intensified disease surveillance and preventive measures following heavy rainfall and a rise in communicable diseases. Malaria cases increased by 27.9 percent, reaching 7,895 cases, with significant surges in tribal and agency areas. Dengue cases also rose by 4.6 percent, and 941 cases of scrub typhus were recorded. In response, Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav directed officials to implement an automated early warning system and prioritize mosquito control measures, including indoor residual spraying and the distribution of approximately 600,000 insecticidal nets.
