Public transport costs in the Lombardy region of Italy are undergoing adjustments. In the Province of Lodi, the Local Public Transport Agency authorized a tariff realignment for 2026. While monthly commuter subscriptions in Lodi will remain unchanged to mitigate financial pressure on workers, other costs such as standard tickets, 10-ride carnets, and annual subscriptions will increase. Broadening the scope to the wider Lombardy railway network, Trenord announced implemented fare increases for tickets and subscriptions effective September 1. These adjustments, averaging 3.889%, follow a regional government resolution approved in July. The changes are based on regional and national regulations, including Istat-certified inflation and service performance indicators. Specifically, the transport sector saw a 3.9% cost increase, and Trenord’s 83% punctuality rate triggered the full inflation adjustment. The most significant changes affect annual subscriptions for long-distance routes exceeding 160 kilometers, where costs are expected to rise by more than 50 euros. Monthly subscriptions are also expected to rise by approximately 1 to 5 euros. In the Cremona province, monthly subscriptions for the Cremona-Milan route will rise from 103 to 107 euros, with annual subscriptions increasing by 38 euros. The hike has drawn criticism from regional councilors Angelo Orsenigo and Matteo Piloni. Critics argue the increase violates a previous unanimous regional government promise to freeze prices until 2027. Piloni noted that while performance metrics were met, the regional punctuality target of 83% remains significantly lower than the national average of 92%.
