The government of Puebla has launched several social, educational, and legislative initiatives aimed at community development and youth empowerment. Initial efforts focused on a comprehensive strategy titled “Juventudes que Construyen Paz,” which utilizes sports, education, and economic opportunities to address the structural causes of violence. This includes significant funding for the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) to host sporting events, scholarships for athletes, and the establishment of the Universidad del Deporte (UDEP) to provide professional career paths in physical culture and sports management. Subsequent actions expanded into direct educational support and legislative reform. In San Pedro Cholula, authorities distributed over 2,000 textbooks to support children in community assistance centers. Concurrently, the Puebla Congress approved agreements to promote legal certainty regarding asset transmission and mandated training for the State Civil Registry to ensure the dignified treatment of non-binary and gender-diverse individuals during identity document procedures. Legislative efforts have recently expanded to include public health and agricultural oversight. The State Congress issued an exhortation to the State Health Secretariat and the Institute of Indigenous Peoples to coordinate the recognition of traditional indigenous medicine through measures such as creating a registry of traditional doctors and implementing intercultural health brigades. Furthermore, the Congress called upon COFEPRIS to increase surveillance of agrochemicals, requesting updated risk assessments and the progressive removal of toxic substances. To address meteorological damage, the legislature also urged the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development to strengthen support for local farmers affected by weather events.
