The municipal administration of Puerto Morelos, led by Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, has initiated several modernization and infrastructure programs. Initial efforts focused on digital infrastructure and public safety, including the activation of a free high-speed Wi-Fi network at Parque Fundadores and the implementation Fundadores. Implemented in coordination with GigNet México as part of the 2024-2027 Municipal Development Plan, the network supports over 1,200 daily connections. To professionalize the local police, the municipality implemented the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Model workshop workshop, training members of the Secretariat of Citizen Security to train local identify crime patterns and social factors. Security efforts have since expanded through the ‘Primero Tu Seguridad’ strategy. This includes the creation of a specialized Tourist Proximity Police force, with officers trained in English, human rights, and visitor assistance. The municipality has also upgraded its technological capabilities by incorporating drones and video surveillance cameras. To foster social cohesion, the administration is integrating neighborhood committees and establishing spaces for Peace and Civic Justice, while continuing police training in crime pattern identification. Following these initiatives, gender perspective and the protection of vulnerable groups. Additionally, the municipality has progressed with an 81.2 million peso public works program. This investment covers 18 strategic projects in Puerto Morelos and Leona Vicario, targeting improvements in paving, sanitation, public lighting, and the rehabilitation of public spaces to enhance mobility and security.
