Puglia economic and labor market trends

Overview

The economy of Puglia is showing signs of growth and sector-specific expansion. In the first quarter of 2026, the region’s exports increased by 9.8% compared to the previous year, a rate that significantly exceeded the national Italian average of 1.3% and outperformed the broader Mezzogiorno region.

Following this economic activity, the labor market has seen a notable recovery. According to a WorkUP report, there has been a significant surge in demand within the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, which rose to nearly 10% of total personnel demand, up from less than 1% in previous months. To meet this need, employment centers in Bari, Modugno, Monopoli, and Triggiano will host ‘ICT Job Days’ from September 21 to 25, 2026. This recruitment week will focus on six key areas: hardware and infrastructure, software and development, cloud and hosting, system integration, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.

In the provinces of Bari, Barletta-Andria-Trani, and Foggia, August saw high demand in leisure and entertainment, crafts, commerce, and tourism. Additionally, a RIPAM competition has been launched to hire 882 technical specialists for public administrations across Southern Italy, with 168 positions specifically reserved for Puglia.
