Qatar Airways has announced several service and operational expansions targeting the Australian market. The airline is introducing premium service upgrades for passengers traveling from Australia and New Zealand, featuring new dining menus developed with chef Ross Lusted, a new cocktail collection, and high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi. Additionally, the airline will expand its Australian footprint by launching services at Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) on December 15, 2027. Initially operating three weekly flights between Doha and WSI using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, the airline plans to increase this to daily service by the end of 2028. The service will utilize Qsuite business class and free Starlink Wi-Fi for all passengers, leveraging WSI’s 24-hour operating capacity to facilitate connections to over 170 destinations across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. This expansion was supported by the $16 million Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, a joint initiative by the airport and the New South Wales government. Qatar Airways becomes the fifth foreign carrier to commit to the new airport, joining airlines such as Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Vietjet, and Fiji Airways. Aviation experts have noted that while the airport marks a significant shift in the regional aviation landscape, success will depend on the development of passenger demand and surrounding transport infrastructure.
