Qi2 25W wireless charging standard adoption
Overview
The wireless charging industry is transitioning toward the Qi2 25W standard, which offers increased power and speed compared to the original 15W Qi2 standard. This new iteration is expected to reduce the time required to reach a 50% charge from up to 80 minutes down to approximately 30 minutes, while also providing improved thermal protection.
In response to this standard, hardware manufacturers are releasing new products. Anker has introduced the Anker Prime 3-in-1 MagSafe charger, which is Qi2 25W certified and uses an active cooling system. Following this, Thanko Co., Ltd. released a Qi2-certified 3-in-1 wireless charging stand capable of charging an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously at up to 25W. The Thanko device includes magnetic alignment, an overheating protection function that triggers if the coil exceeds 85°C, and a built-in adjustable night light.
