Qualcomm is advancing its mobile processor lineup with the official announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which utilizes a custom Oryon CPU architecture and FlexCache technology to achieve clock speeds exceeding 5GHz. The chip features a new ‘Adreno Matrix’ GPU architecture designed to improve graphical performance and energy efficiency, alongside an enhanced NPU for AI tasks. Leaked benchmarks and technical specifications for the unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975) suggest a high-performance 2nm N2P design. This Pro variant is expected to feature an eight-core CPU with two Prime cores running at 5.01 GHz and an Adreno 850 GPU with 18 MB of graphics memory. An AnTuTu benchmark leak indicated a score of approximately 4,835,412 points, potentially placing the chip ahead of current Android flagships. Competition remains intense from MediaTek, which is preparing its Dimensity 9600 Pro on TSMC’s 2nm N2P process, and Samsung. Internal testing reports suggest Samsung’s Exynos 2700, produced via the 2nm SF2P process, may outperform Qualcomm’s offerings. Specifically, the Exynos 2700 reportedly achieved Geekbench 6.5 multi-core scores 9.5% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and 19% higher than the standard model. The Samsung chipset also showed advantages in efficiency, consuming 161 mA compared to the Pro variant’s 185 mA, and generated Llama 3.1 8B AI responses 18% faster. Recent reports regarding the upcoming Galaxy S27 series indicate Samsung is validating the series against the unreleased SM8975 chip, internally designated as ‘Snapdragon_Premium_High_2026’. Testing reportedly covers various regions, including Korea and Verizon-specific builds. However, Samsung has also reportedly ordered Exynos 2700 motherboards specifically for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, potentially marking the first time since the Galaxy S22 Ultra that an in-house Exynos chip is used in the Ultra tier.
