In July 2026, Quantum BioPharma announced that its proprietary multiple‑sclerosis candidate LUCID‑MS had completed Phase 1 studies in healthy volunteers with a favorable safety profile and had filed an IND with the U.S. FDA, clearing the way for patient‑focused Phase 2 trials. By early August 2026, the company reported that a pilot imaging study conducted with Massachusetts General Hospital had reached the midpoint of patient enrollment. The PET‑based scans showed promising signals in acute MS lesions, providing a potential biomarker that could accelerate evaluation of LUCID‑MS and other remyelinating therapies. This novel PET imaging technique can differentiate between viable demyelinated nerve fibers and permanently damaged axons. On August 10, 2026, the FDA approved the Investigational New Drug application for LUCID-MS (Lucid-21-302), officially allowing the candidate to proceed to Phase 2 clinical development. Unlike existing therapies that focus on immune system modulation to reduce inflammation, LUCID-MS aims to provide neuroprotection by targeting the protein arginine deiminase 2 (PAD2) enzyme. This mechanism is intended to inhibit demyelination, which preclinical models suggest could prevent or even reverse myelin breakdown. The upcoming Phase 2 study will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating efficacy, safety, and tolerability through clinical and radiological measures. Quantum BioPharma is currently working with a clinical research organization to support the trial and is in the process of site selection to begin patient enrollment and dosing. On August 31, 2026, Rodman & Renshaw initiated coverage on Quantum BioPharma Ltd. with a ‘Buy’ rating and an $8.00 price target. The rating was attributed to the potential of the LUCID-MS candidate, which is being developed through the company’s subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., as a patented non-immunomodulatory small molecule designed to address neurodegeneration and disability progression in progressive multiple sclerosis.
