The Querétaro State Secretariat for Women (SEMUJERES) has launched several initiatives to combat violence against women and promote gender perspective through various sectors. In late August, SEMUJERES partnered with sports organizations, including Gallos Blancos Femenil and Club Querétaro, to introduce the ‘Medios con Perspectiva’ workshop. This program aims to foster sports communication free from violence and promote responsible language standards, such as the ‘Código 8M,’ to ensure women can occupy sports-related spaces safely. Concurrently, SEMUJERES collaborated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to provide specialized training for over 50 public servants. This training focuses on strengthening the capacity of Municipal Integral Care Centers to prevent, identify, and respond to violence against women, girls, and adolescents, with a specific emphasis on preventing child, early, and forced marriages. These efforts in Querétaro are part of broader regional trends in Latin America to combat gender-based violence. While Querétaro focuses on specialized training for public servants, other Mexican initiatives include the National Institute for Women (INAMU) launching the ‘¡Alerta! Bandera Roja’ campaign to identify early warning signs of abuse, and workplace prevention programs in Saltillo aimed at identifying harassment and digital violence.
