Bulgarian boxer Radoslav Rosenov advanced to the final of the men’s 60kg category at the European Boxing Championships in Sofia after defeating Spain’s Andres Hernandez with a 4:1 decision. His tournament progress included a quarterfinal split-decision victory over defending champion Vsevolod Shumkov of Russia. Rosenov subsequently won the gold medal by defeating Ukraine’s Aider Abduraimov via a unanimous 5:0 decision. This victory marked the first gold medal for Bulgaria at the championships. Additionally, Bulgarian boxer Rami Kiuvan secured a bronze medal in the 75kg category. Following his victory at the Asics Arena, the 22-year-old Rosenov was named the September athlete of the month by sports media. His quarterfinal win over Shumkov was described as personal redemption for a previous loss to the Russian boxer in the 2024 European final. Rosenov noted that the prior defeat taught him the necessity of “increased discipline and training.” Looking toward future competitions, Rosenov expressed goals to secure a world title and an Olympic quota for the 2028 Games. He also highlighted the personal sacrifices involved in his training, such as time spent away from his family in Germany. Meanwhile, bronze medalist Rami Kiwan intends to compete in the 70kg category for future Olympic qualification.
