Ragnarok Zero: Global launch and player growth expansion into Americas
Gravity Game Unite (GGU), a Malaysia-based subsidiary of Gravity, prepared for the worldwide launch of its PC MMORPG, Ragnarok Zero: Global, through Open Beta Tests in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Oceania. These tests introduced features such as the ‘Get Poring’ mechanic and the ‘RO Factory’ user-generated content (UGC) platform. In preparation for the release, GGU held user meetups in Germany and Thailand, attended by Gravity Co-CEO Yoshinori Kitamura, GGU President Harry Choi, and Executive Producer Yong Nam Kim. Following the scheduled release on August 18, 2026, the game officially launched across Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Europe. Distinguishing itself from the original free-to-play Ragnarok Online, this new title utilizes a subscription-based service model. The game features modernized systems like auto-hunting and updated UI/UX alongside classic 2D pixel graphics. Key content includes a Germany-themed map and support for multiple languages. Due to high demand for the ‘RO Factory’ feature, developers expanded the available slots for player-created items. Post-launch reports indicate strong initial momentum. In Southeast Asia, the Odin server reached capacity shortly after opening, prompting GGU to launch an additional server, Loki, to accommodate the influx of players. In Europe, the Skadi server has maintained high popularity. Additionally, the Ragnarok IP has expanded into esports; the team BLACK ANGUS has been named the Korean representative for the Ragnarok Online Stars (ROS) 2026 global tournament after winning the Korean qualifiers. They are scheduled to compete in the ROS 2026 Global Finals in Bangkok, Thailand, this November. Gravity has since announced the pre-registration phase for Ragnarok Zero: Americas, a version of the MMORPG specifically targeting players in the Americas. This title will also utilize a subscription-based model to prioritize gameplay achievements and foster a balanced in-game economy.
