The multi‑agency enforcement drive that began in mid‑June has continued to expand across Sicily and beyond. After the July 25 raid on Catania’s Playa beachfront that uncovered untraced fish, unsafe equipment and illegal employment, authorities imposed fines exceeding €40 000. In the same period Carabinieri operations extended to other Sicilian locales, arresting a 25‑year‑old in Isola delle Femmine after detecting marijuana and seizing about one kilogram of the drug. A night‑time raid in Catania led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of hundreds of grams of marijuana, cocaine, hashish, heroin, crack, dozens of ammunition cartridges and more than €11 000 in counterfeit banknotes. Parallel inspections in Santa Maria Capua Vetere and nearby towns identified missing risk‑assessment documents and inadequate training, resulting in fines totalling over €8 000 and the suspension of one business. A coordinated operation by the Carabinieri for Labour Protection and the Guardia di Finanza uncovered a transnational scheme that forged work permits – the “decreti flussi” – for hundreds of non‑EU migrants, mainly from Morocco, Bangladesh and India. Spanning seven regions (Campania, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany, Liguria, Lombardy and Molise), the crackdown resulted in 22 precautionary measures: 18 house arrests and four obligations to sign documentation, and authorities seized cash and documents estimated to be worth several million euros. The latest investigations traced the network through provinces including Salerno, Ancona, Napoli, Avellino, Benevento, Campobasso, Rome, Pisa, Savona and Brescia, noting the use of telematic submissions on the designated “click day.” The campaign aims to protect consumer health, enforce workplace safety, curb drug trafficking and address immigration fraud, reinforcing the broader Italian crackdown on crime and safety breaches.
