Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, continues to criticize the Indian national education system, asserting that it is failing the current generation due to paper leaks, high fees, and decaying infrastructure. As part of his ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ initiative, Gandhi has invited students, parents, and teachers to share experiences via an online platform. The fifth edition of this program was held on September 19 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, intended to serve as a non-political platform for direct dialogue with students regarding educational security and exam integrity. During the Indore event, Gandhi engaged with students regarding the state of the education system and youth employment. He noted that the current system “often appears to dislike those who ask questions” and alleged it favors “blind followers.” He specifically questioned the allocation of government funds, contrasting resources for celebratory events with the lack of safe hostel accommodations for female students. He also alleged that over 100,000 government schools have been closed across the country. The event has triggered intense political friction following a performance by comedian Pulkit Mani, who mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP leaders have escalated their criticism, with Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stating the performance was a “mockery of every mother in India” and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noting it violated societal values. Other leaders, including Dilip Ghosh and Pushkar Singh Dhami, alleged the Congress party’s political culture is damaging the nation. Congress leaders have dismissed these allegations as baseless, maintaining the event focused on student concerns. Expanding the reach of the initiative, Gandhi traveled to Tamil Nadu in early October. On October 9, Gandhi arrived in Chennai for the sixth leg of the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme at Island Grounds. The event addressed systemic issues including NEET irregularities, paper leaks, unemployment, and rising tuition fees.
