Rahul Gandhi Prayagraj visit and student dialogue
Entities: Rahul Gandhi · Prayagraj · Uttar Pradesh · Jharkhand · BJP
Overview
In early August 2026, a series of posters appeared across Prayagraj mocking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s stance on the NEET exam and linking him to student protests in Jharkhand. The campaign, which carried no party symbols, prompted a sharp response from the ruling BJP, which accused Gandhi of exploiting youth issues for political gain.
On August 8, Gandhi held a scheduled “student dialogue” in Prayagraj titled "Chhatron Ki Goonj." Ahead of the event, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai stated the meeting was intended to allow Gandhi to hear student problems and propose solutions. Rai also criticized the BJP and RSS for their political focus and accused the government of neglecting children's welfare and favoring certain firms for contracts.
During his address, Gandhi framed his speech around the themes of "pain, data, and wealth," arguing that India's youth are trapped in a "chakravyuh" of systemic failures. He addressed a severe unemployment crisis, alleging that only 12 out of every 1,000 young people secure permanent jobs. He criticized the declining value of educational degrees, frequent examination paper leaks, and the dismantling of the manufacturing sector. Additionally, Gandhi raised concerns regarding data privacy, alleging that the personal data of 40 crore young people is being exploited by major corporations such as Jio, Adani, Facebook, and Google. He warned that social media distractions may divert youth from economic realities and accused the ruling party and the RSS of institutional capture within universities.
In response, members of the BJP-led NDA criticized the event, claiming the Congress is misleading the youth. Government ministers highlighted initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Udhyami Yojana and the provision of over nine lakh government jobs to counter unemployment allegations. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju further questioned Gandhi's choice of location, suggesting he should have visited protesting students in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
