Extensive railway maintenance works in Tuscany are scheduled to cause significant disruptions to train services throughout October and November. The Florence-Pisa line will undergo a complete closure between Empoli and Pisa from October 9 to 11. Regional transport official Filippo Boni described the interruption as “improcrastinabile” (unavoidable), noting the impact on students, workers, and airport connections. While replacement bus services will be organized, officials warned that buses cannot match the capacity or efficiency of the rail connection. Additionally, maintenance on the Tirrenica line (Genova-Pisa-Roma) will affect travel between Pisa, Pietrasanta, and Massa during several weekends in October and November. These works include extraordinary maintenance on bridges and station upgrades. Specific infrastructure projects include the construction of new pedestrian underpasses in Viareggio and Pietrasanta. Impacted services include various high-speed and Intercity routes, such as Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, and Intercity connections between Milan, Livorno, Naples, and Rome, as well as regional trains on the Pisa-La Spezia line. Affected routes also include Sestri Levante-Napoli and Ventimiglia-Roma. Commuters are advised to monitor the Trenitalia app or website for specific updates.
