Rajasthan infrastructure and urban development
Overview
The Rajasthan state government and the central government are advancing various large scale infrastructure and urban development initiatives.
The World Bank has proposed the Sustainable Urban Transformation in Rajasthan Accelerated (SUTRA) project, a $385.7 million initiative. This project targets 32 urban local bodies and 28 satellite towns across Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and Bharatpur. Its goals include improving urban amenities, strengthening infrastructure, promoting tourism, and enhancing the administrative and financial capacities of local bodies. The project also focuses on waste management, transport connectivity, and addressing environmental challenges like water scarcity and waterlogging.
Concurrently, 82 major infrastructure projects valued at approximately 2.61 lakh crore rupees are underway. Significant progress is noted in the energy sector, including the 6 GW Barmer Complex solar project, and in transport, such as the completion of a new passenger terminal in Jodhpur and ongoing railway expansions. Urban and water projects include the Jaipur Ring Road, Jaipur Metro Phase-2, and the Ram Jal Setu Link project, which aims to provide drinking water to over three crore people across 17 districts.
