RedMagic announced the Astra 2, a high‑performance gaming tablet, on 17 July 2026. The device pairs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 3 nm processor with a dedicated RedCore R4 gaming chip and an AquaCore Cooling 2.0 liquid‑cooling system – the first of its kind in a tablet. The cooling system utilizes a fluorinated coolant, piezoelectric micro‑pumps, Liquid Metal 3.0, and a 4D vapor chamber. It features a 9.06‑inch LTPO OLED screen (2.4 K, 185 Hz refresh, 300 Hz touch), dual linear‑vibration motors, stereo speakers, an 8300 mAh battery with 75 W fast charging, and dual USB‑C ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2 for data/video, USB 2.0 for controllers). The tablet runs on REDMAGIC OS 11.5 based on Android 16 and has an IP54 splash resistance rating. Two configurations are offered: 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage for €699 (≈ $749) and 16 GB RAM/512 GB storage for €799 (≈ $849). On 29 July, RedMagic introduced a 33 W magnetic cooler for the Red Magic 6 Pro+ device, priced at 189 yuan in China, which claims to reduce temperatures by up to 77 °C. Early reviews praised the Astra 2’s strong gaming performance, long battery life, and effective thermal management, noting its compact form factor. However, reviewers noted that RedMagic’s software support is limited to three years. General sales began in late August, with the device becoming available in Italy on 26 August 2026. Following its European launch, RedMagic expanded availability to Malaysia and Japan in early September. In Malaysia, the tablet is offered in Black Eclipse and Starfrost colors, with the 12GB/256GB model priced at RM3,599. In Japan, pre-orders for the 12GB/256GB configuration began on 9 September at a starting price of 139,800 yen.
