The controversy surrounding Reform UK has escalated following the ITV News documentary ‘Undercover: A Year in Reform’, which resulted in several suspensions and resignations. Among those facing consequences, aspiring MP Jason Powell was suspended after being recorded stating that ‘you cannot be a Muslim and British’ and suggesting asylum seekers should be placed in ‘concentration camps’. Councillor Alan Feeney resigned after privately describing an area as ‘infested’ with Asian families and calling them ‘parasites’. Further footage revealed more extreme rhetoric, including Councillor Adam Parkins suggesting he would perform ‘Sunday morning Rose Garden executions’ regarding those involved in grooming gangs, and Councillor David Kerr advocating for the mass shooting of similar individuals. Reform MP Sarah Pochin also characterized the party as ‘chauvinistic’ regarding its treatment of women. Regarding the specific remarks made by Adam Parkins and David Kerr, Reform UK has announced that no further action will be taken against the two Hounslow councillors. Parkins defended his comments, arguing that advocating for the death penalty for those involved in child rape gangs is a ‘perfectly legitimate opinion’. A party spokesperson stated the councillors were expressing personal opinions during what they believed was a private conversation. Reform UK has maintained there is ‘no room for racism’ within the party and has opened investigations into members who ‘clearly behaved inappropriately’. In addition to internal disciplinary actions, the party has stated it is pursuing legal action against ITV regarding the use of undercover reporting.
