Region Stockholm is moving toward the formation of a broad, cross-bloc governing coalition. The proposed administration, consisting of the Social Democrats, Green Party, Centre Party, Liberals, and Christian Democrats, would hold 80 of the 149 seats in the regional assembly. This realignment follows the exclusion of the Left Party, after the Centre Party rejected their inclusion in previous cooperation attempts. The new arrangement marks a significant shift as the Christian Democrats and Liberals move away from their traditional alliance with the Moderates. Axel Conradi, the Moderates’ group leader, criticized the development as a ‘historical betrayal of the voters,’ arguing that the Christian Democrats and Liberals are abandoning promises to prevent Social Democratic rule in exchange for regional posts. He further characterized the potential alliance as turning these parties into ‘support wheels’ for the Social Democrats. Negotiations have recently faced setbacks following the collapse of talks with the Christian Democrats. In response, the Social Democrats have resumed political negotiations, focusing on engagement with the Liberals, the Green Party, and the Centre Party to form the governing coalition.
