Traditional culinary heritage is being celebrated through various regional events and dining customs in Moldova and Romania. In the Edineț district of Moldova, the commune of Parcova hosted the inaugural ‘Festivalul Babelor’. The event focused on the traditional dessert ‘Baba neagră’, featuring various versions such as ‘Baba albă’ and recipes incorporating cheese, fruit jams, or homemade brandy (rachiu). Organizers intended the festival to serve as a means to preserve ancestral recipes. In Romania, culinary traditions are highlighted through specific regional festivals and dining hubs. The village of Moșna in Sibiu County held its 18th Cabbage Festival, which included a producers' market and the ‘Claca de sarmale’, a traditional gathering for making stuffed cabbage rolls. Additionally, the Ilfov region near Bucharest maintains a strong focus on authentic cuisine, with various establishments specializing in dishes such as sarmale, mici, and local fish specialties. In Moldova, the 15th National Apple Festival was recently held in Soroca. Organized by the Soroca District Council in partnership with the local municipality and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event included a parade, exhibitions of apple varieties, and culinary displays featuring apple-based dishes. The festival also aimed to promote modern cultivation technologies and facilitate exchanges among farmers, highlighted by the creation of the largest apple pie by the Soroca District Council. Despite the celebration, local producers reported economic difficulties. Farmers noted that low market prices and high logistics costs are impacting profitability, with significant price drops for juice apples compared to previous years.
