In the Tarapacá region, various initiatives have been launched to support regional integration and local development. Cultural efforts include the 2nd Encuentro de Música Criolla, which aims to strengthen ties between Chile and Peru through musical performances and presentations at the Consulate General of Peru in Iquique. Additionally, educational institutions in the Tamarugal area are incorporating Aymara, Quechua, and Puquina traditions, alongside migrant influences, into local celebrations to foster dialogue and respect for diverse identities. On the infrastructure and sustainability front, the Tarapacá Regional Government and the Iquique Fire Department have coordinated to accelerate the renewal of emergency equipment, including fire trucks and rescue tools. Concurrently, a circular economy pilot project at the Parque Arboleda site has successfully recovered personal protective equipment to be repurposed into new materials, resulting in significant energy and water savings. Recent efforts have expanded into the tourism sector to stimulate cross-border business opportunities. From September 23 to 26, an international familiarization trip brought fourteen tourism operators from Tacna, Moquegua, and Arica y Parinacota to explore attractions in Iquique and the Tamarugal province. Supported by the Chile-Peru Integration and Border Committee and the Regional Government’s Investment Attraction Unit, the program highlighted heritage, gastronomy, and nature, including visits to the Pica Oasis, Humberstone saltpeter works, and Salar del Huasco. A business meeting at ZOFRI facilitated connections between visiting operators and local entrepreneurs to promote regional tourism growth.
