Regional gastronomic festivals and culinary traditions are being continue to be celebrated across Hungary, Romania, and Serbia. In mid-September, events in Hungary and Romania focused on plum-themed traditions. The 28th Szarvasi Szilvanapok in Szarvas, Hungary, featured musical performances and community gatherings. Meanwhile, in Tornya, Romania, the Arad County Hungarian Farmers Association organized a plum jam-making event to preserve folk recipes and produce items such as jam, compote, and plum brandy. Subsequent celebrations expanded to include broader traditional dishes and competitions. In Oradea, Romania, the ‘Bihari ízek és hagyományok’ event showcased local products like honey and artisanal goods alongside dishes such as goulash and stuffed cabbage. In Serbia, the ‘Izađi mi na teglu’ ajvar-making caravan commenced in Dimitrovgrad, traveling through several towns to facilitate a competition where local teams use traditional recipes to qualify for a grand final in Belgrade. In October, festivities in the Szeklerland region of Romania shifted focus toward harvest and livestock. In Szárhegy, the Famous Szárhegy Cabbage Market and Festival is scheduled for October 16–18, featuring a traditional cabbage-cutting ceremony and cooking competitions despite dry weather affecting growth rates. Additionally, the Lamb and Palinka Festival is set for October 24–25 in Székelyudvarhely. Organized by several local entities, the festival aims to promote local lamb and mutton consumption and support producers facing market difficulties due to export restrictions caused by animal diseases. This event will run alongside the Udvarhelyszék Beekeeping Days.
