Regional security and economic forums in Sofia

High-level discussions are taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria, focusing on regional stability, economic integration, and geopolitical security.

The Sofia Economic Forum has convened political and business leaders to address Bulgaria’s first year of Eurozone membership, its impact on competitiveness, and energy security concerns, including nuclear energy and the Vertical Gas Corridor. The forum also examines NATO’s role in the Black Sea and broader technological and demographic challenges in Southeast Europe.

Concurrently, the 6th Balkan Think Tanks Meeting brought together representatives from 12 Balkan nations to discuss ‘Resilience and Cooperation in a Turbulent World.’ This gathering focused on the Balkans’ role in Europe’s security architecture, the EU integration process, and the regional implications of the Russia-Ukraine war and Black Sea risks. Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Sait Uyanık emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Turkey and Bulgaria in maintaining regional peace.

The seventh edition of the Sofia Economic Forum continues these dialogues, with participants focusing on the strategic development of Southeast Europe. Current discussions include the effects of Eurozone membership on the banking sector and national investment, the resilience of energy systems, and transatlantic relations between Bulgaria and the United States. Furthermore, panels are addressing technological transformation through artificial intelligence and the enhancement of regional connectivity via transport and logistics corridors.
