Regional sports updates in Czech Republic and Slovakia

Regional sports updates in the Czech Republic and Slovakia cover various disciplines, including handball, football, floorball, and carrom.

In youth handball, teams in the Vysočina league and Slovakian women’s categories have recorded mixed results, with MŠK Iuventa Michalovce holding seventh place in both older and younger categories. In the Czech Republic, carrom players participated in a tournament in Letohrad.

Developments in football include the outcome of the Slovak derby between FC Spartak Trnava and ŠK Slovan Bratislava. Following previous traffic restrictions in Trnava to accommodate the match at the Anton Malatinský Stadium, ŠK Slovan Bratislava secured a 3-0 victory in the 11th round of the Niké liga. Rahim Ibrahim scored in the 19th minute, and Adam Griger extended the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute, marking his first goal for the club. Following the match, Slovan coach Yaya Touré expressed satisfaction with the performance, noting the win provides relief after inconsistent results. Before kickoff, supporters from both clubs performed choreographed displays and directed chants toward the Slovak Football Association (SFZ) and its president, Ján Kováčik.

The Slovak national floorball team is preparing for the World Floorball Championships by competing in Switzerland against teams like the Czech Republic. Additionally, SK Slavia Praha reported an 11-0 defeat in the EHL against HC Royal Orée, citing fatigue and tactical difficulties.
