Following the survey, the West Bengal cabinet reached an in-principle decision to gradually shut down 250 government-recognised private madrasas by December. This specific move is attributed to negligible student enrolment and inadequate infrastructure. Officials indicated that nearly 2,500 unregistered madrasas in the state may face phased closures in the future.
