Regulatory authorities in Moldova and Romania have implemented significant enforcement actions and financial penalties across the transport and consumer sectors. In Moldova, the National Agency for Road Transport Supervision (ANTA) issued sanctions exceeding 1.1 million lei during September. These penalties, stemming from 203 contravention reports, addressed illegal transport activities and violations of passenger and freight transport norms, including issues with documentation, weight limits, and driving schedules. Specific violations documented included unregistered operators and taxi services lacking mandatory equipment. In Romania, enforcement has targeted both consumer goods and food safety. While earlier data from the Timiș Consumer Protection Commission showed 1,363 fines totaling 4.72 million lei through October 1, recent inspections conducted by the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) between September 28 and October 2 resulted in over 4.8 million lei in fines. This recent crackdown involved 1,030 fines and 804 warnings, identifying food safety issues such as moldy produce, meat with blood accumulation, and fish covered in ice. These actions led to the suspension of product sales worth over 1 million lei and the temporary halting of services for 15 economic operators due to hygiene and traceability failures. Beyond food safety, inspectors identified improper storage temperatures, the use of rusted or dirty equipment, and a lack of mandatory information on textile labels. Authorities also permanently removed non-compliant goods valued at more than 250,000 lei from the market.
